Dirt and water protection. This top coat is used to give wood water-repellent properties, reducing the risk of surface growth of mould and algae, and creating a smooth surface that is easier to clean.
Once the fluid has dried and the surface protection hardened, a hydrophobic surface is created around the wood fibres, which reduces the penetration of water and waterborne dirt. It also reduces the movement of moisture in the wood, which counteracts cracking and leads to a more even greying process. The water-repellent effect will be noticeable after a day or so, but the full effect takes approximately 2–3 weeks. At lower temperatures, the hardening process may take longer.
